“To those for whom these village fires still have meaning:
Oh, may your own most beautiful Animal of Light come safely to you!”
from the Last Whole Earth Catalog

Okay, so I didn't get this to you at tribe Ganesh in time for the Ganapati empowerment. Didn't know of this tribe at the time.
The material is still useful.

KT

On 13 July in Seattle Washington a Ganapati empowerment will be offered at Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism. The guru bestowing this empowerment is the tantric master of Sakya Monastery, His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Rinbochay. See www.sakya.org for more information.

For this reason it is timely and appropriate to provide some basic teaching and perspective on Ganapati, and in particular an esoteric Hindu Ganapati mantra and also a Sanskrit Buddhist praise of Ganapati. Many diverse teachings on this deity in Hindu form are available on the internet ( under both Ganapati and Ganesh ).

An excellent introductory summary for Ganapati / Ganesh is available online at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ganesha

The Buddhist Ganapati is also referenced in the Tibetan Buddhist traditions of the Nyingma ( e.g. Longchen Nyingtik ) and Gelugpa lineages ( see practice texts for www.fpmt.org ). There is also Buddhist practice of Ganapati in the esoteric Buddhist Japanese tradition known as Shingon, which came East via China and not Tibet.

Briefly, Ganapati means Lord of the Troop, and Ganesh basically means Elephant Headed One. Ganapati is known by the title “Remover of Obstacles” or “Lord of Obstacles”. He carries or represents the enormous power of the Elephant. He is often accompanied by two female consorts Riddhi and Siddhi ( Magical Accomplishment and Spiritual Accomplishment ).

Ganapati is very prominent and even central in Hindu practice and is often evoked at the beginning of important engagements or projects, such as making a journey or starting employment, or beginning a meditation practice session. I have seen dance evocation of Ganapati at the beginning of a Hindu temple dance concert. Ganapati is one of the main practices of Hindu business people for success in their commercial ventures.

Ganapati is strongly associated with the “national spirit” or Mother India as well as her earliest roots. In the distant past elephants were used throughout India to clear land for agriculture, and also as war elephants. More recently, public Hindu celebrations were banned by the occupying British and the outlawed Ganapati ceremonies were brought forth, successfully, to rally India against foreign rule.

It is said that the long “History of India” was transcribed by the deity Ganapati as given by Rishi Visvamitra. Many of the key texts of Sanatana Dharma ( Hinduism ) were written down by Ganapati. So, this practice is a primary connection to Vedic Culture. Due to this, Ganapati is also practiced by students to help with their secular school exams.

Ganapati has a very ambivalent status in Buddhist tantra, the esoteric form of Buddhist meditation which relies on yoga, deity recitations and mystic practices in general. On the one hand, Ganapati is often considered unfriendly towards Buddhist practitioners in general, and propitiated or banished or subjugated so as to not cause problems. Thus, a subjugated Ganapati serves as the throne for the deity Mahakala in his Six Armed form. This reflects the fact that some but not all Hindu practice / culture affirms Buddhist teachings.

On the other hand, there are specifically Buddhist practices for Ganapati, as for other Hindu deities such as Shiva, Sarasvati and so forth. The Sakya lineage carries Buddhist deity yogas for the Hindu deities Uma Devi / Parvati and Garuda, as well as Ganapati. ( In Southern Buddhism, such as in Sri Lanka Theravada monasteries, it is common to propitiate the Hindu deity Visnu for outer or worldly benefits. )

More broadly, many Buddhist schools share with the Sanatana Dharma ( i.e. Hindu practice and culture ) a significant focus on Ayurveda, or spiritual medicine. The Buddhist deity Bhaisajyaguru, or Medicine Buddha, is a deity of Buddhist spiritual medicine and Ayurveda in both Hindu and Buddhist forms is more or less identical in practice, not just similar.

In the classical Sakya tradition, this Twelve Arm Ganapati is actually an emanation of Avalokitesvara, the beloved and universal Buddhist deity of liberating compassion. Thus, it is reasonable to view this empowerment as being a definite connection to Avalokitesvara and the general practices of Avalokitesvara.

It is also very important to note that with this ( or any ) tantric Buddhist empowerment comes the general set of universal Buddhist vows, such as the Ten Precepts ( rejection of harmfulness, theft, dishonesty, ill-will and so forth ), and the Bodhisattva vows. The Bodhisattva vows focus on active humanitarian service in the most broad and deep and long term ways, starting with rejection of limiting ideas such as racism, sexism, tribalism, and all cultural divisiveness.

For some basic teachings on Buddhist theory and practice, see the following at Asian Classics:
http://www.asianclassics.org/research_site/webdata/education.html

The Principal Teachings of Buddhism
Buddhist Refuge
The Vows of the Bodhisattva

For an excellent general introduction to Buddhist practice, with a focus on Buddhist tantra, see the following book by Kalu Rinpoche:
The Dharma: That Illuminates All Beings Like the Light of the Sun and the Moon, State University of New York Press, 1986, ISBN 0-88706-157-5

http://www.amazon.com/Dharma-Illuminates-Beings-Impartially-Light/dp/0887061575

This book is short, direct, accessible, classical and effective. It should be. It was transcribed as spoken directly to westerners by one of the greatest Buddhist masters of the last century.

To take the tantric Buddhist empowerment of Ganapati or any other is to take Mahayana Buddhist vows, as well as to become authorized to do magical kinds of practice, such as mantra recitation to develop the power of the deity. The point is that in this case, the Hindu/ Buddhist deity Ganapati is practiced within a classical Buddhist context, not otherwise. Thus the above mentioned Buddhist references are of central importance in this transmission and practice.

As a brilliant red deity aspect, Twelve Armed Ganapati is not only a remover of obstacles and disharmonious circumstances, but also a magnetizing deity, i.e. a deity that “warms up” social situations, and develops strongly positive interpersonal engagement.

On a yogic level, this deity ( in Buddhist deity yoga ) develops strength and power at the level of the navel point of the psychic energy body ( svadhisthana cakra ), although I cannot say more without transgressing tantric vows of secrecy. Note that the Hindu Ganapati is girded by snakes, representing kundalini energy, and is similarly associated with the energy at the base of the spinal column. All tantric transmissions are private, and their contents not to be discussed following initiation.

This is one of many specifically obstacle-removing diety yogas in Buddhist tantra. There are many others, but this one is definitely recommended for those who have a more Hindu-oriented background in culture and/ or personal karma. And as noted earlier, it is a connection to Avalokitesvara practice specifically, and to the outer Mahayana practices in general.

This can also be viewed ( speaking very unofficially ) as a connection to Hindu transmissions. ) For this reason I will now provide a specifically Hindu mantra for Ganapati, which has been confirmed. It is quite reasonable to say that on obtaining a Twelve Arm Ganapati empowerment, one may practice the following Hindu mantra as well.

Maha Ganapati Mantra
"Aum shrim hrim klim glaum gam
ganapataye vara varada sarva
janamme vashamanaya svaha"

Vedacarya Thomas Ashley-Farrand, from whom I have Laxmi transmission, has many introductory and also detailed teachings on Hindu mantra practice. See his website at
http://www.sanskritmantra.com/

The following is not an official representation, but I do have the Sakya lineage Ganapati transmission some twenty years back from HE Luding Khen Rinbochay. This Sakya initiation is for a Twelve Arm Red Ganapati, equivalent in many respects to the Hindu deity Ganesh or Ganapati. Many diverse teachings on this deity in Hindu form are available on the internet ( under both Ganapati and Ganesh ). The Buddhist Ganapati is also referenced in the Tibetan Buddhist traditions of the Nyingma and Gelugpa lineages.

From www.sakya.org :
GANAPATI INITIATION
Ganapati made the commitment to help all beings to uphold the 3 trainings—moral behavior, meditation, wisdom— and, in particular, to provide the necessary materials and provisions for practitioners.
He protects one from obstacles at the beginning of any enterprise and also helps to increase wealth and power for the benefit of the Dharma.
His Holiness Jigdal Dagchen Sakya, head lama of Sakya Monastery, was born in Tibet in 1929. He continues the great Sakya lineage which began with Khon Konchok Gyalpo (1034—1102). He received teachings of the unbroken Khon lineage, the Sakya Vajrakilaya, the Hevajra and the complete Lamdre Tsogshe, from his father, H.H. Trichen Ngawang Thutop Wangchul, the last Sakya throne holder in Tibet. He also studied with many other great Buddhist teachers, including Dzongsar Khyentse Chökyi and Dingo Khyentse Robsal Dawa.
In 1960, H.H. J.D. Sakya was invited to work on a University of Washington research project on Tibetan civilization which was sponsored by the Rockefeller Foundation. At the request of students, he co-founded with H.E. Dezhung Rinpoche Sakya Tegchen Choling, a center for the study of Tibetan Buddhism and culture. In 1984, the center became the Sakya Monastery of Tibetan Buddhism.

The vedaas hail anna (food) as the form of Brahman as it’s the source of life. ( annam bramhethi vyajaanaat)This can be seen in thaitiriya Upanishad

The merit obtained by doing one single annadaana cannot be compared even to the daana phala of thousand elephants, horses and cattels, by giving a way thousands of gifts made of gold and silver, by giving the whole land and sea on earth, by conducting kanya daana (wedding) for 1 crore kanyas.

This shows the greatness of annadaana.

Annadaana is a very important part in mantra purascarana . where one has to perform dashamsa homa, dashamsa tarpana and dashamsa annadaana. Without annadaana mantra siddhi is not achieveable and the purascarana is incomplete.the whole benefit of the mantra siddhi is obtained through this annadaana. The reason behind this is, annadaana removes the shortcomings in the purascarana karma and makes it complete.it removes the bakti lobha, mantra lobha and kriya lobha.. And bestows perfection.

Our guruji always say “…. If u ask me whether a person who has done millions of japa and did severe tapas is higher or the person who has fed 100 people in his lifetime….. the answer will be the person who fed the 100 persons”

all the punya phalas promised in the scriptures are attained easily by feeding the poors and the sadhus. Normal persons who don’t know how to do worship, japa etc can get the similar benefit in multiple folds by just feeding the needy and the sadhus.

If u give money to a person he will not be satisfied, if u give gold, vastra etc… still the same…. He will want more…….but he can only eat until his stomach gets full. He himself will say enough and goes home satisfied.

Feeding the sadhus and shiva baktas ia a great blessings for mankind. Its like feeding shiva himself , as they are the human form of shiva. Its very rare to get an opportunity to feed a holy men. If got…. It shouldn’t be missed. Feeding a holy men can remove all our obstacles in life and spiritual path, and it blesses with wisdom. All past karmas are washed away the moment you feed a sadhu. Thats the power of annadaana!

but now it takes some formalities, so to say,
to understand what I am dealing with.

I would like to have an altar but.... I dont know where to start.
What do I need to build one?

And... I feel very stupid asking this question, but I have to know: what happens with offerings?
I mean, if I offer a flower, it will die one day. In Christianism you have to burn everything what has been
blessed etc.
(February 21 to March 6, 2008)

Just imagine your airplane touching down at the India airport of your choice – Mumbai or Ahmadabad – on Thursday, February 21, 2008. Awaiting you at the airport is your guide, who will escort you by rail or taxi to your hotel accommodations in Surat City, Gujarat State. You will have arrived just in time to take in the World Yoga Championships, either as a participant or as a spectator. If anyone wishes to participate in the Championships the necessary registration forms can be downloaded at www.lifemission.org. The Championships run from February 22 though February 24. (The Championships were primarily founded as a means for encouraging youth worldwide to engage themselves in the ageless science of yoga for the betterment of body, mind and spiritual development in similar fashion that society worldwide encourages youth to participate in common sporting events.)

Following the Championships, you will be escorted to Malav Ashram for a five night stay, which includes three days of “hands on” yogic training under the expert guidance of Acharya Yogendradev, who has taught in North America, Taiwan, and India

And now – the Tours – you will tour the historic spiritual pilgrimage site of Kayavarohan and visit the Brahmeshwar Temple of Lord Lakulish (the 28th incarnation of Lord Shiva). You will spend 5 nights at a beautiful oceanside resort near the city of Div, overlooking the Indian Ocean with its miles of sandy beaches, and visit surrounding points of interest including the renowned Somnath Temple; a lion wildlife reserve, an ayurvedic clinic of a renowned ayurvedic physician where you will be able to observe the natural preparation of ayurvedic medicines and receive a free medical check-up. You will also have the opportunity to visit the temple complex at Rajrajeshwardham, where Lord Lakulish materialized in his divine body on January 29, 2007. Then – another great grace awaits you – you will have the rare opportunity of having darshan with the highly advanced yogi, Swami Rajarshi Muni.*

Now your yoga trip is reaching its end – on March 6, you will be escorted by your guide to your departure airport for your trip home – to reflect on and absorb your many yoga experiences of the past 2 weeks; the multitudes of wondrous Indian sites you've seen; the unmatched hospitality of its people and the many lasting new friendships you've made.

The cost per participant is $ 695.00 USD. This price does not include your transportation costs to and from India, which is entirely your responsibility, as are any required passports, visas etc. This price does include designated tour accommodations and meals in India, and all ground transportation to the Championships and touring sites in India, as well as ground transportation to and from airports at Mumbai or Ahmedabad. Any profits after all costs have been met will be directed to projects for the poor, including schools and hospitals. For further information, go to www.lifemission.org, or email: Acharya Yogendradev, ggvaghela@yahoo.com; or Dennis Konchak, lifema@telus.net; or Hans Splinter, Hsplinter@cogeco.ca.

* Swami Rajarshi Muni is the author of a vast library of nearly 100 titles in four different languages, including ten books in English. Some of the English titles are: Classical Hatha Yoga, Divine Body Through Yoga; Tenets for the Spiritual Life; Infinite Grace (The Story of My Spiritual Lineage), Awakening the Life Force, and Light from Guru to Disciple.

From: http://www.devipuram.com/mailables/archive_kadambari/kadambari2.pdf

Om SrIm HrIm KlIm glaum gam
ganapataye varavarada sarvajanam me vasamAnaya svAhA

1. First, while repeating Om, mentally imagine the beautiful
elephant face of the Lord.

2. SrIm indicates the divine couple, Lakshmi and Narayana.
Imagine in Mahaganapathy’s right uppermost arm the discus
of Narayana and in the left uppermost arm the lotus of
Laksmi. They represent Time and the Earth (in its gross
aspect), respectively. This appears to us as the Time-Space
continuum (the sthiti), which prevents an individual from
experiencing the eternal. We can here interpret this as relating
to an individual in the world and his seeking of a Guru to
him experience the unlimited.

3. HrIm indicates the divine couple, Gauri and Sankara.
Imagine in the second-from-the-top right arm the trident of
Sankara, and in the corresponding left arm the noose of
Gauri. They represent the removal of triputi (the three
stages of experience- the seen, the seer and the act of seeing)
and of desires respectively. This is the annihilation (
samhara), which is the removal of the individual ego by the
grace of a compassionate Guru.

4. KlIm indicates the divine couple, Rati and Manmatha.
Imagine in the third-from-top right arm the sugarcane bow
of Manmatha, and in the corresponding left arm the blue lily
of Rati. They represent pure mind and secret spiritual knowledge,
respectively. This may be likened to creation (srusti) of
a new field of experience for the blessed aspirant by the
Guru, in directing him to follow a given path (sadhana) to
attain a constant experience of the eternal.

5. Glaum indicates the divine couple, Bhumi (Earth) and
Varaha (the boar-faced avatar of Vishnu). Imagine in the
fourth-from-top right arm the mace of Varaha, and in the
corresponding left arm the paddy, indicative of Earth’s fertility.
They represent action and cycle of life (cyclic in the
sense of sowing, reaping, and again sowing), respectively.
Though this may be likened to veiling of the universal experience
(tirodhana), for an aspirant it is more akin to being led
by the Guru to complete detachment, in renouncing all fruits
of his actions.

6. Gam indicates the divine couple, Siddhalaksmi and
Mahganapathy. Imagine in the right-lowermost arm the
pomegranate, representing different universes stacked like
pomegranate seeds; and in the corresponding left arm the
tusk which represents the fruit of all sadhana, Ekam sat, the
One Truth, which is the experience of unqualified, undivided
Brahman as Bliss. This verily is the grace (anugraha) whereby
the seeker dives into a deep state of samadhi upon constant
practice and the grace of the Guru, who merges into him.

7. Ganapataye is the form for invoking the Lord. Imagine
your head resting upon His feet. This implies a continuance
of the above-noted state of Samadhi.

8. varavarada is a prayer to the Lord to bestow upon us the
best boons and blessings. Meditate here upon the ornamental
pot of nectar held by His trunk. Imagine that He is showering
it over you and you are drenched. The best of boons is
the experience of the Unlimited Bliss that leads to immortality;
amruta. This may represent the sahaja state, wherein the
realized one goes about his daily chores but remains aware of
his blissful state always. (The dhyana sloka ends with a prayer
to the Lord – who is the creator, sustainer and annihilator of
the world – to bestow our cherished boons.)

9. sarvajanam me vasamAnaya means “let all people be subjugated
to me.” We find the clue for our meditation in the
word “people,” which indicates the Universe. The embrace of
Siddalakshmi can be interpreted as the creative urge and the
lotus in the other hand as the manifest (gross) Earth (the last
subtle element; the result by default of mixing the other
four previous subtle elements). Hence we meditate on
Siddhalakshmi – the Creatrix of the Universe, seated on the
left lap of the Lord – with a firm conviction that the world,
the divine couple and the self are One.

10. Finally, svAhA indicates an offering into the fire (here we
are also reminded of the fire sacrifice, ganapathy homam).
Since whatever is offered into the fire becomes one with it,
meditate upon the above truth and try to be in that experience
for a moment.

If the moderators will kindly permit a new book announcement, I would like to tell people about a spirituality book I’ve written and recently published that may be of interest and service.

Courageous Souls: Do We Plan Our Life Challenges Before Birth? explores the premise that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for purposes of spiritual growth.

The book contains ten true stories of people who planned physical illness, having handicapped children, deafness, blindness, drug addiction, alcoholism, losing a loved one, and severe accidents.

The information about their pre-birth plans was obtained by four very gifted mediums and channels, including one who has the ability both to see and to hear the conversations we have with one another before we’re born. The book therefore contains the actual conversations people had with their future parents, children, spouses, friends, and other loved ones when they planned these challenges.

As readers come to understand that they themselves planned many of their challenges, suffering that once seemed purposeless becomes imbued with deep meaning. Wisdom may be acquired in a more conscious manner; feelings of anger, guilt, blame, and victimization are replaced by acceptance, forgiveness, gratitude, and peace.

A free PDF with a large sample of the book is available on the About the Book page at www.CourageousSouls.com. People may also wish to read the reviews on Amazon.

The book may be ordered on the Courageous Souls web site or from Amazon, including Amazon Canada, UK, France, Germany, and Japan. It may also be ordered from any bookstore or library (in most countries) by providing them with the ISBN number (9780977679454).

I have had kidney failure for some time now. About eleven years ago I was in the hospital for complications related to my dialysis care. I was not expected to live long and was waiting for my mom to come out to california from arkansas. I was lieing in my hospital bed in a private room. This short heavy set indian women stepped into my room. She had a great big smile on her face. She came over to me and all she said to me was," if you want to leave this place all you have to do is pray to Ganesha, he will listen to you." She bowed her head and turned and left. I was amazed by this interaction, what had compelled her to tell me this and where did she come from. I knew of Ganesha and that he was the remover of obstacles. I started to drift into a dream like state where I was running around a track with hurdles. The thing that was interesting is I could see that the hurdles I had gotten past were from different parts of my past. Where I was was my present and in front of me was the hurdle that I was facing. I couldn't see myself making it over it and then one of ganesha's arms reachs out and pulls the hurdle aside. I woke up feeling that I would be ok and that I would forever honor ganesha for being there for me. Later that night I asked if anyone knew who the indian women was that came in my room. The nurses looked surprised and said that there was no indian women on the floor all day. Ever since I have had a strong devotion to ganesh. He is present in my visualizations and I have an alter to him. I have researched him some and learned a lot about him, but I have never really gotten into the whole Hindu religion. I was 19 then and I am 30 now. I have outlived all expectations for me. I still am on dialysis and I have other diseases now that challenge my life. Yet I am still making it day to day with my friend Ganesha by my side. I would like to learn more about ganesha and the hindu faith. I am christian by birth, but never connected with christ like I have with Ganesha.
love & light;
LSB
ps could someone give me a good mantra to Ganesha?

was curious ..

they often list several different correspondences of Indian gods and goddesses for
different planets...would Ganesh correspond with Jupiter or the Moon?

people correspond Lakshmi with Jupiter because she is prosperity..
However I know Ganesh represents prosperity too, but from a remover of
obstacle point of view which represent blessings...

I think people say the moon because in the Tree of Life(qabalah) when you
are going up the tree(the path of divinity) you first encounter Yesod(which means foundation)
and is represented by the moon, and before any undertaking you ask Ganesh for
his blessing because he is the remover of obstacles...however I know of one myth
where Ganesh is angry at the moon...and on the other hand there is a story about
Ganesh going round the earth(like the moon) so it is a bit confusing

Does anybody have any insight into this?
I recommend my book ORMUS FROM AUTHORHOUSE
www.authorhouse.com/BookStor...alog.aspx
ORMUS, ORME....WHITE GOLD ...The manna, the white powder of gold, is the food, the light, one takes into their body. It is the FOOD OF THE GODS. A modern day Rabbi might tell you that no one has known how to make the manna, the white powder of Gold, since the destruction of the Temple of Solomon. The technique is, supposedly, a lost art or lost knowledge. But others argue that when the high priests left the Temple (when it was destroyed), the took the secret out into the desert and organized a commune called Qumrun. There, they became the Essenes. Eventually, the white powder was used to nourish a woman named Mary, and eventually, she gave birth to a man named Jesus.
These gifts include: perfect telepathy, the ability to know good and evil when it’s present, and to project thoughts into another person’s mind. There is also the ability to levitate, or to walk on water. By excluding all external magnetic fields (including the Earth’s gravity), the white powder of gold takes one beyond the four dimensional space time continuum, and the individual becomes a fifth dimensional being. They can literally think where they would like to be, and go there. They can heal by the laying on of hands, and can cleanse and resurrect the dead within two or three days after they died. They have so much energy that they can literally embrace people and bring light and energy back into them. We the International Order Of Knight Templars have the keys to Immortality. The International Order of Knight Templars has many hidden esoteric keys about ormus , immortality and 2012.
please take a look at these forums

The fourth day of each lunar fortnight is special for worship of Lord Ganesha. This last saturday night was the first time that i have observed this in any focused way. A friend and i simply chanted "Om Gang Ganapataye Namaha Om" together 108 times before a Ganesha Murti. I then went to a psytrance party and had one of the most powerfully positive dance experiences that i have had in ages. So many of the obstacles within my soul were overcome for that night...it felt as if the deadness of winter was transformed so suddenly into the aliveness of spring....Hail the Lord of Beginings as we begin this season! Hail the Lord of Obstacles who opens the ways within us!

As i danced i made a vow to observe the fourth night of each waining and waxing moon with the chanting of this mantra. Anyone on this list who lives in or around Portland Oregon or who is passing through on one of these nights please feel free to join me in this.

Tav manima ko varne para,
janma charitra vichitra tumhara.

Riddhi (prosperity) and Siddhi (accomplishment) serve you by waving chanvar (fan) while your mushak (mouse) vahan (vehicle) adds splendour at the door. As for the mysterious and strange story of your birth, who can really describe your greatness?

Ek asur Shiv-rup banavai,
Gaurihin chhalan hetu tahan avai.
Yah karan te shri Shiv-pyari,
nij tan-mail murti rachi dari.

A demon, disguised as Shiva, repeatedly tried to delude Gauri Mataa, who in order to foil the demon's attempts, moulded, You, a divine form from the scurf of her body.

So nij sut kari grih-rakhvare,
dvar pal sam tehin baithare.
Jabahin svayam shri Shiv tahan aye,
binu pahichan jan nahin paye.

Gauri Mataa then assigned you to protect the home and stationed you at the door and when Shiva .. her husband ... came, he was not recognised and was not allowed to enter.

Puchhyo Shiv ho kinke lala
bolat bhe tum vacnan rasala
Main hun Gauri-sut suni lijai
age pag na bhavan hit dijai.

Shiva asked, "whose son are you?" and you pleasantly replied: "I am Gauri's son. Do not take even a single step beyond this point towards the house."

Avahin matu bujhi tab jao,
balak se jani bat badhao.
Chalan chahyao-Shiv bachan na manyo,
tab hvai kruddh yuddh tum thanyo.

You asked Shiva to wait there "until you obtained your mother's permission" instead of prolonging "talk" with "a child", but Shiva attempted to enter and you challenged him.

Tathshan nahi kachhu Shambhu vicharyo,
gahi trishul bhul vashmaryo.
Siras phul sam shir kati gayau,
chat udi lop gagan mahan bhayau.

At that moment Shiva did not give a second thought and hurled his trishul .. trident .. at you, severing your head which soared into the sky and disappeared.

Gayo Shambhu jab bhavan manjhari,
jahan baithi Giriraj-kumari.
Puchhe Shiv nij manmuskaye,
kahahu Sati-sut kahan te jaye.

Shiva then entered and therein saw Gauri .. daughter of the Mountain King, Himalaya ... seated. Shiva smilingly asked: "Hey Sati, tell me, how did you give birth to your son?"

Khulige bhed katha suni sari,
giri vikal giriraj dulari.
Kiyon na bhal svami ab jao,
lao shish jahan se pao.

At this stage, hey Shri Ganesh Ji, the story of your birth unfolded and Gauri learnt of what had happened to you. Your mother became distraught and fell to the ground. "You did not do good," Gauri told Shiva and let him know that he should "go and bring my son's head from wherever you find it."

Chalyo Vishnu sang Shiv vigyani,
milyo na so hastihin shir ani.
Dhadh upar sthit kari dinhyon,
pran vayu sanchalan kinhyon.

Knowledgeable in all skills, Shiva accompanied by Vishnu searched for the head in vain and eventually, they brought the head of a baby elephant and placing it on your body, blew life into it.

Shri Ganesh Shiv nam dharayo,
Vidya buddhi amar var payo.
Bhe prabhu patham pujya sukhdayak,
vighna vinashak buddhi vidhayak.

Shiva Ji named you Shri Ganesha and blessed you with immortality, knowledge and wisdom. Shiva Ji also pronounced that You are the first among those who are worshipped and You remove all obstacles and bring joy and enhance the intellect.

Prathamahin nam let tav joi,
jag kahan sakal kaj sidh hoi.
Sumirahin tumahin milahin sukh nana,
vinu tav kripa na kahun kalyana

Hey Shri Ganesh Ji, whosoever takes thy name before embarking on a mission achieves success. Those who meditate on You enjoys happiness and peace and security, for without your blessing there is no success.

Tumharahin shap bhayo jag ankit,
bhadavan chauthi chandra akalankit.
Jabahin pariksha Shiv tuhin linha,
pradakshina prithvi kahi dinha.

It was your sraap .. curse .. that cause the moon's face to be tarnished with the black reflection of the earth on the 4th day of the bright half of Bhadrapada (Bhado) so that none dare to look at it. And when Shiva Ji wanted to test your intellegence, he asked you to go around the earth.

Satmukh chalyo mayur udai,
baithi rache tum sahaj upai.
Ram nam mahi par likhi anka,
kinh pradakshina taji man shanka.

Your brother, Sadmukha ... Kartikeya ... jumped on his peacock and went to fly around the earth, You, hey Shri Ganesh Ji wrote Rama's name ... RAM ... on the ground and meditating upon Rama circumambulated ... went around ... the name written on the ground.

Shri pitu-matu-charan dhari linhyo,
ta kahan sat pradakshina kinhyo.
Prithvi parikrama phal payo,
as lakhi suran suman varshayo.

Further, hey Shri Ganesh Ji you with utmost devotion grasped the feet of your parents ... Gauri and Shiva ... and circumambulated them seven times, thereby achieving the blessing equal to circumambulating the earth and so pleased were the gods that they showered flowers upon you.

Sundar Das' das ram ke chera,
Durvasa ashram dhari dera.
Virchyo Shri Ganesh Chalisa,
Shiv puran varnit yogisa.

Sundardasa, a devotee of Rama while he staying in Durvasa's hermitage, composed this Shri Ganesh Chalisa just as the Rishis that composed the

Shiva Poorana.
Nitya Gajanan jo gun gavat,
grah vasi sumati param sukh pavat.
Jan dhan dhanya-suvan sukh dayak,
dehin sakal shubh shri Gananayak.

Those who daily recite this Chalisa will enjoy intelligence and bliss. Shri Ganesh Ji is the bestower of wealth, progeny and happiness and every auspicious object upon his devotees.

Doha

Shri Ganesh yah chalisa, path karai dhari dhyan,
Nit nav mangal mod lahi, milai jagat sanman.
Dvai sahstra dash vikrami, bhadra Krishna tithi gang,
Puran chalisa bhayo, sundar bhakti abhang.

Those who meditate upon Shri Ganesh Ji and recite the verses of the Chalisa will be blessed and honoured.
In the month of Bhadra, the third day of the dark half, in the Vikrama year 2,010 (A.D.1953) the 40 verses of this Chalisa was completed by Sundardasa to show his devotedness to Shri Ganesh Ji.

Shri Ganesh Ji ki Jai
Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti

By: Anaka
Ganesha Banishing Ritual 5/06
Today I felt the need for removing obstacles, SO; naturally you must turn to Ganesha, Lord of Paths. Here is a ritual that I have made. Incase anyone else feels the need to remove any obstacles in their life use it today or another day that’s comes ahead.
REQUIREMENTS: for ritual (if you don’t have any of this make due with what you have and what feels right).Perform this ritual outside at a four way road, river and or crossway where you won’t be disturbed:
Picture of Ganesha image (such as a small statuette of Ganesha, a picture, or an image created for the rite)
3 Small bowls - one contains water, the other 2 are empty
Incense (Sandalwood)
Perfume (Lilly of the valley)
Freshly cut red flowers (any red flowers)
Red Candle
Food Offering (rice, fruits and candies)
Instrument for making music (i.e. drum, rattle, bells)
Bowl containing fire (special herbs are need)
Red string (3 strings a foot long each)
Yantra of Ganesha *you can see picture here: http://www.frappr.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=502265 *

Write your desires in and around this Yantra, What ever feels good put inside. Once you are done writing your desires Yantra under Ganesha.

1. LIGHTING SACRED FLAMES:
In a contained heat proof bowl gather natural small twigs adding equal parts of the following and light, add every so often till rituals done. Place twigs on bottom and herbs on top:
Curry (Protection)
Alfalfa (Prosperity)
Hyssop (Purification)
Heather (Luck)
Elder (Healing)
Lavender (Happiness)
Start off by meditation on what you feel is blocking your way while saying (repeat as many times as needed):
Ganesha Mantra Text +
GAHANANAM BHOOTGANADHISEVITAM
KAPITTHAY JAMBOO PHALCHARU BHAKSHANAM
UMASUTAM SHOKVINASHKARAKAM
NAMAMI VIGHNESHWAR PADPANKAJAM
AUM
Translation:
Elephant-faced, worshipped by the existing beings, of all living beings, tasting the elephant apple (Kaith) and jambolana (jamun), the sun of Uma, destroyer of grief, I bow to the lotus of Ganesha who is lord of all.
Once you have a general idea of what must be done proceed forward. If you still don’t have a clear grasp of what’s blocking you consult other forms of divinations such as tarot, runes, sticks, the skies and most important yourself. You must always listen to what your consciousness tells you. It’s usually right!
2. Acknowledgement of self:
Light Red Candle in acknowledgement of the Self within and as an offering to Ganesha;
“The eternal flame of SELF is lit. As it burns so do I. My awareness is lit as it is lit. Burn bright in the darkest of times and bring back the light to all who see your flame.”
3. Call Guardians *
North is Maha-Visnu, East is Rama-Sita, South is Shiva-Parvata and West is Rati-Puspabana. Thus:
“Hail Rama and Sita in the east
The beautiful Sita was once abducted by demons
Until the hero Rama chased them to the eastern border
Then incited by the gods who guard the directions
you hurl the demons ten heads to the skies
Hail Shiva and Parvati in the south,
Parvati is a match for the god in all austerities
She rouses Lord Shiva from his yogic trance
he would walk through burning coals to be with her
excited by her presence
his third eye opens and all illusion is destroyed
Hail Rati and his goddess in the west
the god of love is attracted by
her presence
From the union of lovers flows an elixir of immortality
Hail Mahi and Vishnu in the north
the goddess who was once lost in the chaotic waters
Until he lifted her up on his giant boar's tusk
There she clung to its tip, like a speck of dust on the crescent moon
For tearing the demons asunder
For destroying illusion
For making the divine elixir
For raising the earth
Homage to thee , guardians of the temple. “
* http://www.cix.co.uk/~ganesh/ganesha3.htm
4. Sacrifice of the SELF:
Sacrifice the self you do not need anymore. What has broken away does not need to be taken up once again. It has broken away for a reason. Realize that and accept that. Are you willing to let go of your insecurities? Acknowledge the Self. What has been and what WILL be. On a piece of paper write all blocks on single pieces of torn paper. Concentrate on each one and as you do place all fears and doubts into each and everyone. Once you have done that throw each one into the flames of Ganesha. Visualize them being eaten away.
Ex: Hatred, selfishness, closed mindedness, etc…
5. Offerings to Ganesha Image:
The next phase of the puja is to make offerings to the form which contains the power of Ganesha.
Gam, Obeisance to Ganapati (pour water from 1st bowl into other two)
Gam this water. Gam Gam Gam Hum Hum Om Gam Ganapati Namah

[Offer first bowl to Ganesha, take a sip after offering to Ganesha] - Gam, this is for sipping
[Offer second bowl to Ganesha by pouring on him, then pour oneself] - Gam, this is for bathing
[Dab perfume on head of Ganesha, anoint self] - Gam, this is perfume
[Cense Image around Ganesha, censer self] - Gam, this is incense, this is for prayer
[Offer Candle to Ganesha] - Gam, this is flame, this is for sacrifice
[Offer Food to Ganesha; accept a small portion of food into body] - Gam, this is food, this is for sustenance
[Offer Flower to Ganesha] - Gam, this is flower, this is for experience
[Make music to Ganesha, dance and sing from the soul] - Gam, this is music, this is for enjoyment
Take these offerings O Sri Mahaganapati, bestow siddhi upon us!

6. Thanks and Farewell:
Make sure to thank Ganesha for his help. Leave milks, rice, all fruits and candies as a thank you after working with him. Make sure that the fire has died down does not pose a threat to burning dried grass. When ever you want to start any new ventures ask Ganesha to guide and protect you. In hindu he is the first god you must go thru before you start anything in life. Other wise all roads you try to cross will remain blocked. So make sure to tell him hi once in a while and give offerings not to receive but our of respect.

Let me know how this ritual turns out for you: ayinainsoph@yahoo.com You many copy and print this ritual and use for yourself but please make sure to keep ritual as is when printing and using any content in it. Thanks for your understanding. Blessings! Cool

Picture of Ganesha incase you need to print out a picture of him:
Anayakaika nayakam vinasithebha daithyakam,
Nathashubha pranasakam, namami tham vinayakam. 1

I salute that remover of obstacles,
Who has modakas in his hand,
Who always bestows salvation,
Who wears a part of moon on his head,
Who protects this world which is varied,
Who is the leader of those who cannot be lead,
Who is the cause of destruction of asuras,
And who destroys all things which are not good.

Nathetharathi bheekaram navodhitharka bhaswaram,
Sureswaram Nidheeswaram Gajeswaram Ganeswaram,
Maheswaram thamasraye parathparam nirantharam. 2

I bow before that great Lord permanently,
Who creates fear in the enemies of his devotees,
Who sparkles like the just risen sun,
Who is saluted by Gods and Asuras
who destroys obstacles of his devotees,
Who is the God of all devas,
Who is the God of all wealth,
Who is the God of all elephants,
And Who is the leader of the army of Lord Shiva.

Samastha loka sankaram, nirastha daithya kunjaram,
Daretharodaram varam varebhavakthramaksharam,
Krupakaram, Kshamakaram, Mudhakaram, Yasaskaram,
Namaskaram Namaskrutham namaskaromi bhaskaram. 3

I bow to that Ganapati who shines like the Sun,
Who bestows peace to all the worlds,
Who removed the Gajamukhasura from this world
Who has a very big paunch,
Who has an elephant-face which blesses,
And who is the one who shows kindness
Who is patient,
Who is full of blessing,
And who showers great fame,
To those who salute Him.

Akinchanarthimarjanam chiranthanokthi bhajanam,
Purari purva nandanam surari garva charvanam,
Prapancha nasa bheeshanam danamjayadhi bhooshanam,
Kapola dhana vaaranam Bhaje purana varanam. 4

I salute the very ancient elephant-god
Who destroys the wants of the have nots,
Who has been worshipped since ancient times,
Who is the eldest son of the lord who destroyed cities,
Who eats away the pride of the enemies of the gods,
Who is awesome at the time of final deluge,
Who wears serpents like Dananjaya as ornaments,
And who is fierce like the elephant in rut.

Nithanta kanthi dantha kantha manthakantha kathmajam,
Achinthya roopamantha heena mantha raya krunthanam,
Hrudanthare nirantharam vasanthameva yoginaam ,
Tham eka dantha meka meva chinthayami santhatham. 5

I always meditate only on that God with single tusk,,
Who is ever lustrous tusk is very pretty,
Who is the son of Lord who killed the god of death,
Who has a form beyond ones imagination,
Who is endless,
Who tears asunder all obstacles,
And who dwells forever in the heart of Yogis ,
Like the season of spring.

Phalasruthi

Maha ganesa pancha rathna maadharena yo anvaham,
Prajalpathi prabhathake hrudhi smaran ganeswaram,
Arogadhamadhosadham susahitheem suputhratham,
Samahithayurshta bhoothi mapyupaithi sochiraath.

The resultant benefit.

He, who remembers with respect every morning,
These five gems of the great Lord Ganapati,
and who meditates in his heart the leader of ganas,
Will soon be blessed with a healthy life,
Free of all problems, endowed with great peace
Great sons, longevity and spiritual and physical wealth.

They are building a $10 million cultural center, and still need funds. I have already met with the Temple President and others formally, and I have their support. Now all I need is the people to make it happen. I need Dj's, dancers, live performers, sound system rentals or purchase. This is a massive... and I need YOU!

For those who may be following a blended path of Hinduism and NeoPaganism, there are several new resources that are available for you.

I have created a yahoogroup for the discussion of IndoPagan topics, which has nearly 100 members and is quite active! You may access more informaion &/or subscribe at:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/ShaktiWicca

There are also 2 new sites where you can find IndoPagan ritual resources, readings, links, and more:

http://indopaganproject.tripod.com - The IndoPagan Project

http://shaktiwicca.tripod.com - The Shakti Wicca Tradition

I hope to see some of you there! There are many devotees of Sri Ganesha in the group - including myself!

Blessings,
~Devi~

P.S. I've personally experienced problems with this, as have several of my yahoogroup members. A general note of warning to members of lists and message boards that relate to Hinduism:

** Groups associated with Hinduism have recently had a spat of ID
hyjacking, and spam messages that read very much like real messages,
but had specific identifying characteristics. Often they will come from addresses that are established members of the group, but have actually been hyjacked from those members. People who responded to these messages personally (i.e. not through the list or board) had their address books downloaded, and personalized gambling site spam sent to all their contacts. In some cases computer viruses, porn, or other offensive material was uploaded onto the group sites. IF YOU RECEIVE A MESSAGE FROM "SOMAADI" ASKING YOU FOR INFORMATION REGARDING SHAKTISM, OR HINDUISM ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RESPOND. These messages vary in their content and tend to seem very sincere, and are slightly different in each group or message board that they appear in.
They also tend to feature odd spacing and broken English. DO NOT RESPOND. **

I am posting this here so that i may quickly locate it when needed each month. Enjoy it also. Lord Ganesha likes his sweets.

Recipe One: Modaka

Ball-Like Sweets

The following recipe will make approximately 20 lime-sized modakas, a treat for the children and a traditional offering in the temple. It takes about two hours to make them.

Ingredients and Utensils

1 lb. rice flour

2 cups jaggery (or 2 cups brown sugar

with four tbsp. dark molasses added)

2 cups raw sesame seeds

2 grated coconuts (optional)

2 cups melted ghee or drawn butter

1 tsp. salt

banana leaf or waxed paper

a flour sifter or fine sieve

an iddli or vegetable steamer

Directions

Roast the sesame seeds in a pan, without oil, until golden brown (5 to 10 minutes). Crack the seeds by rolling with a rolling pin or pounding. Add 4 tbsp. ghee to the jaggery to soften it, then mix in the sesame seeds and coconut thoroughly. (This mix may be refrigerated in jars for making quick sweets simply by adding a bit of ghee and shaping the dough into balls.)

Next sift the rice flour and toast it without oil until it browns slightly -- about 5 to 7 minutes. Spread it out on a tray or table top when done, and allow to cool completely. While the rice flour is cooling, bring approximately a half gallon of water, with a tsp. of salt, to a rolling boil. Put the cooled, toasted rice flour in a bowl and make a well in the middle. Slowly pour a small amount of the hot water into the well and begin working it into the rice flour with your hands. Keep adding small amounts of the hot water, and work the flour into a ball of dough. It should be moist but not wet when you put it out on the table or breadboard. Knead the dough thoroughly so it is even in moisture and texture.

Next, place water in the bottom of the iddli steamer and bring to a full boil. Spread a thin coating of ghee or oil on a piece of banana leaf or waxed paper. Take a lump of dough half the size of a lime and work it in your hands for a moment to remove the air and then pat it out flat and round on the leaf, about as wide across as your palm. Make it a uniform thickness so it will cook evenly. Place a lump of the sesame-jaggery-coconut mixture into the center and wrap the dough up around the mixture. Pinch the dough into a cone-shape over the stuffing and wrap the leaf or paper up around it. (The modakas can also be round if desired.) Repeat until you have enough to fill your steamer. Place the assembled modakas in the steamer, spaced so as to not touch one another. Cover and steam until done (15 to 20 minutes). While they cook you can prepare the next batch. When cool enough to handle, dip the modakas in melted ghee. Now they are ready to offer.

Recipe Two: Pudi Kolukattai

Sweet Rice Flour Roll

Ingredients and Utensils

2 cups rice flour

1 cup jaggery or brown sugar

1 shredded coconut

1 tsp. salt

an iddli or vegetable steamer

a pan for toasting the flour

banana leaf or tray

Directions

Heat the rice flour in a dry skillet until lightly toasted, then spread it out on a tray or table top to cool. Sprinkle a little water on it and add the salt, jaggery and coconut. Mix together, adding water only as needed. When it is well kneaded and firm, pinch the dough off into as many lime-sized balls as it will make. Roll into balls, or squeeze in the right hand to create a fist-shaped kolukattai. Bring water in the steamer to a boil and arrange the kolukattais in it, wrapped in banana leaves as in recipe #1. Steam until the balls are a light brown in color. Arrange on a banana leaf or tray and serve to Lord Ganesha.

Recipe Three: Yallu Kolukattai

Sesame Seed and Sweet Rice Roll

This type of kolukattai is commonly prepared in South India for Ganesha Chaturthi festivals.

Ingredients and Utensils

1 cup sesame seeds

1 cup jaggery or brown sugar

4 cups rice flour

1 tsp. salt

oil or ghee

8 cups water

a steamer with flat rack

a skillet for toasting flour

a small piece of cheesecloth

a mortar and pestle, rolling pin or blender

banana leaf or tray

Directions

Fry the sesame seeds, without oil, until light brown, then mix with the jaggery. Then, using a pestle and mortar, rolling pin or blender, powder this mixture and set it aside. Heat the rice flour until lightly toasted, and spread it out on a tray or table top to cool. While it cools, add the salt to 8 cups of water in a pan and bring to a strong boil. Gather the cooled, toasted rice flour in a bowl and make a well in the middle. Slowly pour a small amount of the hot water into the well in the rice flour and begin working it into the rice flour with your hands. Keep adding small amounts of the hot water, working it together into a ball of dough. It should be moist but not wet when you put it out on the table or breadboard. Knead the dough thoroughly so it is even in moisture and texture. When it can be handled, squeeze the dough into lime-sized balls and set them aside.

Smear a bit of oil or ghee on a banana leaf, tray or table top and roll or knead one of the dough balls out on it to a patty about 3 inches in diameter. Place a full tablespoon of the sesame and sugar mixture in the middle and fold the patty over in a crescent shape, pinching it closed where the edges meet. Repeat the process for the rest of the balls.

Bring the water in your vegetable or iddli steamer to a boil and insert the steaming rack or a plate with small holes in it. The rack should be fairly flat and be covered over with a layer of cheesecloth or cotton weave. Arrange the kolukattai on the flat rack, as many as will fit without touching. Cover and steam for 15 to 20 minutes, or until done, depending on the size of your steamer. When finished, transfer them to a plate or banana leaf and allow to cool. Serve to Ganesha as His fondest sweet. With any remaining sesame-sugar mixture you may make small Ganesha figures. Keep them along with the cooked ones for puja. Betel leaves, nuts and fruits may be offered with these.

On a ceramic plate, place some diskettes of camphor. Wear red and face the west
not as in 'brim or trim'.Get me? And AUM goes as AOOOOONGM ( as pronounced). the
___________________________________________________________________________
It is too vast and beyond the scope of this letter to write the ACTUAL spiritual aspect of

Navratri ( Nav=Nine: Raatri (as it is pronounced)=Nights). There are two such Navaratris in

a year. One around March and one around October/Nov....depending on the Hindu Lunar

Months. Again, there are two 'facets' of Navratri. One the Pauraanic (ancient folklore)

aspect and one metaphysical aspect. I guess you may FIND latter too on the internet. Just

type "Navratri" on Google.

Siddhi means 'attainment'....especially spiritual kind. And the person who has attained

Siddhi..is called Siddha Purush. Purush meaning Man. "The man who has attained". This

attainment can be got by many methods..but Mantras (incantations in a specific way for a

specific purpose) is the BASE.

Durga is a combination of Duh (not as in US DUHH..lol) + gaah. The combo makes it

Durga. Duh.. D pronounced in softer note as the French do. Duh means bad/evil..Gah

means to 'ward off'. So Durga means she who wards off the bad/evil etc. And there are

stories about her.

ANY QUERY PL.CONTACT ME FOR CLARIFICATION.
Blessings to all;

(this was originally a part of a private correspondence with Lolo. I just thought I'd share it here)

Ganesha is a very special archetype...

There is a famous someone in my Sufi order (name not disclosed because his personality sometimes interferes with his message) who wrote an important note about Ganesha.

He said that the story of Ganesha is the SAME archetype as the Greek Oedipus Rex. The difference, however, is significant.

As Freud correctly pointed out, the Oedipal complex underlies much of societys unease. What Freud meant was Western society (we can forgive him this eurocentricism, considering where he was and what his work was). This dervish I am talking about tells us that the difference between the two has to do with LOVE.

In the Oedipal version of this archetypal story, Oedipus unwittingly kills his father and marries (and has sex with) his mother. He is anguished by this and pokes out his eyes. Yes. Tragic.

In the Ganesha story, the father leaves, comes back to find this handsome young diety standing guard at the door of his house. That young deity is none other than our beloved Ganesha. Ganesha doesn't know that this is his father nor does the father recognize his own son. Ganesha is merely guarding his mothers home and well-being (as a good son would). Ganesha is decapitated by his father, Shiva.

At this point, Paravati, Ganesha's mother, sees what happens and wails in horror and anguish. Shiva then understands what he's done. He panics and looks about for a head to replace the severed head of his son. There is only an elephant, so he takes the head of the elephant and puts it upon his sons body and resurrects him.

From then on, Ganesha had the head of an elephant. This is the image of Ganesha that we are familiar with. This zoomorphic form is that of a wounded and even monsterous son, and yet Ganesha is STILL the good guy he was and actually becomes the most beloved of the Hindu pantheon.

(interesting side note: the Hindu, like the ancient Egyptians, did not place ones essential self in the head, but rather the heart)

The dervish I speak of tells us that the Ganesha story is an ANTIDOTE for the self-loathing, self-hating, and frankly, perverse take on this internal archetypical condition.

Where Oedipus is filled with self-hatred, Ganesha is filled with light. Even his father, Shiva, through his love of his son, cultivates something wonderful out of something tragic (his is, after all, a deity). There is a strong element of redemption and forgiveness.

As stories go on about Ganesha, we see that he, not having any self-loathing, goes on to achieve the most wonderous victories in Hindu legend. Even the fact of his "deformity" comes to aid him in his sublime intentions.

We can heal this Oedipal wound with the salve of knowlege. Looking at the Ganesha story is a healing experience. This self-hatred underlies much of what Western civilization is about.

These transpersonal tools we have been given are a chance to heal, to find joy and to evolve past the horror we've felt existentially trapped in.

OM SHANTI
Salaam

QUALITY. EVERYTHING ELSE IS ORDINARY AND CAN FOLLOW, BUT COURAGE IS THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL THING, THE FIRST THING.
You are a seed. The seed can have four possibilities. The seed may remain a seed forever, closed, windowless, not in communion with existence, dead, because life means communion with existence. And the seed is dead, it has not yet communicated with the earth, with the sky, with the air, with the wind, with the sun, with the stars. It has not yet made any attempt to have a dialogue with all that exists. It is utterly lonely, enclosed, encapsulated into itself, surrounded by a Great Wall of China. The seed lives in its own grave.
The first possibility is that the seed may remain a seed. That is very unfortunate—a man may remain simply a seed. With all the potential at your disposal, with all the blessings ready to shower on you, you may never open your doors.
The second possibility is that the seed may be courageous enough, may dive deep into the soil, may die as an ego, may drop its armor, may start a communion with existence, may become one with the earth. Great courage is needed, because who knows? This death may be ultimate, there may be no birth following it. What is the guarantee? There is no guarantee; it is a gamble. Only a few gather courage enough to gamble, to risk.
To be a seeker is the beginning of the gamble. You are risking our life, you are risking your ego, You are risking because you are dropping all your securities, all your safety arrangements. You are opening windows—who knows who is going to come in? The friend or the enemy—who knows? You are becoming vulnerable. That’s what seeking is all about. That’s what Buddha was teaching his whole life. Forty two years continuously, transforming seeds into plants—that was his work—transforming ordinary human beings into seekers.
A seeker is a plant, a sprout—soft, delicate. The seed is never in danger, remember. What danger can there be for the seed? It is absolutely protected. But the plant is always in danger, the plant is very soft. The seed is like a stone, hard, hidden behind a heard crust. But the plant has to pass through a thousand and one hazards. That is the second stage; the seed dissolving into the soil, the man disappearing as an ego, disappearing as a personality, becoming a plant.
The third possibility, which is even more rare, because not all plants are going to attain that height where they can bloom into flower, a thousand and one flowers… Very few human beings attain the second stage, and very few of those who attain the second stage attain the third, the stage of the flower. Why can’t they attain the third stage, the stage of the flower? Because of greed, because of miserliness, they are not ready to share… because of a state of unlovingness.
Courage is needed to become a plant, and love is needed to become a flower. A flower means the tree is opening up its heart, releasing its perfume, giving its soul, poring its being into existence. The seed can become a plant, although it is difficult to drop the armor, but in one way it is simple. The seed will only be gathering more and more, accumulating more and more; the seed only takes from the soil. The tree only takes from the water, from the air, from the sun; its greed is not disturbed; on the contrary, its ambition is fulfilled. It goes on becoming bigger and bigger. But a moment comes when you have taken so much that now you have to share. You have been benefited so much, now you have to serve. God has given you so much, now you have to thank, be grateful—and the only way to be grateful is to shower your treasures, give them back to existence, be as unmiserly as existence has been with you. Then the tree grows into flowers, it blossoms.
And the fourth stage is that of fragrance. The flower is still gross, it is still material, but eh fragrance is subtle, it is almost something nonmaterial. You cannot see it, it is invisible. You can only smell it, you cannot grab it, you cannot grasp it. A very sensitive understanding is needed to have a dialogue with the fragrance. And beyond fragrance there is nothing. The fragrance disappears into the universe, becomes one with it.
These are the four stages of the seed, and these are th four stages of human beings too. Don’t remain a seed. Gather courage—courage to drop the ego, courage to drop the securities, courage to drop the safeties, courage to be vulnerable. But then don’t remain a tree, because a tree without flowers is poor. A tree without flowers is empty, a tree without flowers is missing something essential. It has no beauty—without love there is no beauty. And it is only through flowers that the tree shows its love. It has taken so much from the sun and the moon and from the earth; now it is time to give.

The obstacles to a fully loving heart and a fully actualized life have been so gently removed. Not only has he helped me, but also the lives of my dear friends. When I seek Him on their behalf, he answers so quickly!

My thanks live every moment in this blissfully real life that I live. My wonder and love exist as I see His work in the lives of my beloved friends.

I encourage all of you to add your praise of Ganesh here. Go ahead and give the details of your story, or the story of someone else.
